7 Best Supergoop Sunscreens, Tested and Reviewed (2024)

If there’s one item you consistently pack in your beach bag or fanny pack this summer, let it be sunscreen. We all know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays when we’re on vacation and lounging poolside, but sunscreen isn’t just a beach day necessity—it should be an essential step in everyone’s daily skincare routine. To help you find a broad spectrum SPF product you actually love and want to use every day, we turned to one of our editors’ favorite sunscreen brands—Supergoop. Condé Nast Traveler editors tested out every single Supergoop product—and measured its newer items against formulas we already know and love, like the viral Unseen Sunscreen—to help find you the very best sprays, lotions, and moisturizers to wear this summer and beyond.

In case the skincare brand is new to you, here’s a little backstory: Supergoop launched in 2005 and now has dozens of SPF products designed to protect your face, body, lips, scalp, hands, and more. As avid travelers, we appreciate the range of sizes available, including TSA-approved minis that fit neatly into your personal item or carry-on. It’s long been a trusted brand of our editors, but with so many options to choose from, it can be hard to know which products are most deserving of a spot in your Dopp kit. We tested products across all categories, including both mineral and chemical options, to determine the best of the best. Whether you’re looking for a new non-greasy formula that’s lightweight enough to wear everyday, a tinted moisturizer to replace your current foundation, or an easy-to-apply spray for your next solo beach day, we have you covered.

How we tested:

A handful of Traveler editors each tested a few different products so we could compare which ones we love and which we weren’t as crazy about. We used the sunscreens for a few months—wearing them for day to day activities, on beach vacations, and underneath makeup. We paid close attention to the formulas, how products worked on our varying skin types, the packaging, and overall, how well the SPF actually worked. After rating and reviewing all of the brand’s many products—including some we’ve used for years—we narrowed down the list of must-haves. Read on for the seven stand-out Supergoop products we recommend most.

The best everyday face sunscreen

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen

Strength: Broad spectrum SPF 40
Sizes available: .68 oz., 1.7 oz., 2.5 oz.
Stand-out features: Completely invisible, feels weightless, and performs well for all skin types and tones

If you’re at all familiar with Supergoop, you’ve likely heard about Unseen Sunscreen—one of the brand’s most popular products that has rightfully earned itself a cult following. This scentless, invisible sunscreen with broad spectrum SPF 40 protection is completely weightless and works well on everyone—it received praise from several editors with varying skin types (dry, oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin). This was the very first Supergoop product I ever tried and it’s still my favorite: It feels like a velvety smooth primer on the skin with barely any dry time needed and it looks great underneath makeup, too. Senior commerce editor Madison Flager has been using it for about three years and it’s still the one she always packs on beach vacations or trips where she know she’ll be at a pool, hiking, or otherwise spending a good amount of time outdoors. If you’re looking for something gentle enough to wear every single day, without ever feeling greasy or oily, this is the one to implement into your morning routine.

The best mineral face sunscreen

Supergoop! Mineral Unseen Sunscreen

Strength: Broad spectrum SPF 40
Sizes available: 1.7 oz.
Stand-out features: No white cast, very lightweight, made with sensitive skin in mind

This one is for our friends with sensitive skin or anyone who prefers a mineral sunscreen. Our global associate director of social media Mercedes Bleth used to envy anyone who could use Unseen Sunscreen—she’s allergic to chemical sunscreens. “When I heard there was a new mineral version, I actually squealed,” Bleth says. She put Supergoop’s newest mineral formula to the test over the last few months and was not the least bit disappointed. “It’s got a velvety texture (feels more like a mousse than a gel) and blends in effortlessly. There’s no white cast and it is not at all oily.” It’s quickly become Bleth’s go-to face sunscreen and its lightweight enough to wear underneath makeup. “It is truly the perfect everyimday mineral sunscreen.”

The best hydrating face sunscreen

Supergoop! Triple Prep Weightless Multitasking Moisturizer

Strength: Broad spectrum SPF 40
Sizes available: 1.7 oz.
Stand-out features: Hydrating, supports natural moisture barrier, helps filter blue light

Triple Prep gets its name for delivering an essential trio of benefits: weightless hydration, a supported moisture barrier, and broad spectrum SPF 40 protection. It feels like you’re wearing a normal everyday moisturizer all while being protected from the sun’s harmful rays. This has become a new favorite of Flager’s over the last few months, noting that it kept her skin nourished through New York City’s cold winter but felt just as good on trips to humid Florida. “It is thick but hydrating, and absorbs into my skin quickly with no white cast (I have an olive skin tone),” Flager says. It’s formulated with normal to oily skin in mind and dries down pretty quickly. Flager’s one con about Triple Prep: “I don’t love the screw-top-pot—for convenience, I’d prefer a pump bottle.”

The best tinted face sunscreen

Supergoop! Protec(tint) Daily Skin Tint

Strength: Broad spectrum SPF 50
Sizes available: 1.18 oz.
Stand-out features: Compact bottle, buildable coverage, 14 shades available

When the weather warms up, I prefer to ditch my foundation and wear a lot less makeup, but sometimes, I still want some coverage. This is where a lightweight skin tint comes in. Supergoop’s Protec(tint) is just right—it offers a light amount of buildable coverage, but it doesn’t feel cakey or heavy on my skin. It’s particularly great for summer days when you don’t want to worry about sweating off a full face of makeup. The formula is a little bit liquidy, but that helps it blend in effortlessly and feel smooth on the skin. A little bit goes a long way; it helps even out my skin tone and offers a natural look, all while providing SPF 50 coverage. It’s small enough to fit in a fanny pack or sling bag and comes in 14 shades. I’ll be wearing this on all my weekend trips this summer.

The best family-friendly sunscreen

Supergoop! Play Everyday lotion

Strength: Broad spectrum SPF
Sizes available: 1 oz., 2.4 oz., 5.5 oz., 18 oz.
Stand-out features: Water- and sweat-resistant for up to 80 minutes, kid-friendly, great for active days

Play Everyday lotion with sunflower extract is the brand’s original broad spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen and its designed for both face and body. Many of our editors know and love this one, calling it their go-to body sunscreen. It’s water- and sweat-resistant for 80 minutes, fast-absorbing, and provides protection from UVA, UVB, and IRA rays, making it a great pick for even your most active days, whether you’re going for a long run, headed for a swim, or camping. It’s available in two carry-on friendly sizes, a 5.5-ounce container, and even a large pump with 18 ounces of sunscreen—ideal for the whole family to share. This is the sunscreen I always pack for a day at the beach—it doesn’t slide right off as soon as I start sweating or swimming and doesn’t leave that greasy feeling behind. It has a light fresh and citrusy scent, but nothing too overpowering.

The best sunscreen for the beach

Supergoop! Play Spray

Strength: Broad spectrum SPF 50
Sizes available: 3 oz., 6 oz.
Stand-out features: Water- and sweat-resistant for up to 80 minutes, non-aerosol spray, can be applied on wet or dry skin

If you prefer a body spray at the beach over a lotion, the Play Antioxidant Body Mist with Vitamin C is a solid choice. It’s a non-aerosol spray, is sweat- and water-resistant for 80 minutes, and feels lightweight on the skin. A sunscreen spray comes in handy for hard-to-reach places like your back or if you’re traveling solo. Traveler‘s associate manager of social media Kayla Brock loves that it provides broad spectrum SPF 50 protection, comes in a travel-friendly size, and blends in so easily. Flager also gave this one her stamp of approval: “It sprays on smoothly, smells nice, and is great for full-body coverage,” she says. On a hot day at the beach, it’s easy to spray this on to reapply sunscreen and feels more refreshing than a lotion. “As with any spray, it’s important to apply it slowly, deliberately, and rub it in to make sure you’ve fully covered your skin, and to re-apply regularly,” Flager says. “It holds up well, even on long runs or super hot beach days, and doesn’t feel sticky.” More reasons she loves it: It dries fairly quickly, doesn’t leave a white cast, and you don’t have to worry about spillage.

The best glowy sunscreen

Supergoop! Glowscreen

Strength: Broad spectrum SPF 40
Sizes available: 1.7 oz.
Stand-out features: Available in four shades, gives a glowy finish without looking glittery, doubles as a primer

It wouldn’t be a list of Supergoop favorites without mentioning the viral Glowscreen (it was even featured in Sabrina Carpenter’s new music video for the song of the summer, “Espresso”). It’s one of my all-time favorite face sunscreens: It gives a glowy, dewy finish to skin while providing SPF 40 protection—ideal for little to no-makeup days. I always get complimented when I wear this one—it gives the right amount of shine without looking or feeling oily. As someone who likes a dewy skin finish, I’ve tested out a lot of “glowy” products—from Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter and e.l.f.’s Halo Glow to Drunk Elephant’s D-Bronzi Drops—and Glowscreen takes the cake (all while protecting your skin). Flager reaches for this one during winter to give her skin a boost of radiance when she hasn’t gotten as much sun, and to even out her skin tone. The original Glowscreen in the shade Sunrise was so popular that the brand has since launched three additional shades—Dawn, Golden Hour, and Sunset, all of which are lightly tinted without looking glittery or unnatural. It’ll be a staple in my beach bag this summer.
