There’s a lot to consider before moving abroad: how the transfer will change your daily life and influence your family; whether the healthcare will meet your needs; and what it means for your emotional well-being and bank account (for starters). Luckily, you don’t have to make that decision all by yourself. InterNations—an expat networking community with more than 5 million members—is here to help.
The organization has released its 10th annual Expat Insider survey, an in-depth report on the best places for living and working abroad. More than 12,000 expats based in 172 countries and territories were interviewed for the most recent survey; they were asked to assign ratings to 50+ aspects of expat life, ranging from the cost of living and healthcare quality to the friendliness of the local population.
This year, Southeast Asia and Central America dominated the rankings, with a couple of European and Middle Eastern spots scattered throughout. Counting down from ten, here are the best countries for expats to live in right now.
