Stratos
Stratos, Abu Dhabi’s famous revolving restaurant, is a long-time favorite for cocktails. Gather around the oval bar, relax in high-backed leather chairs, or take a seat at a couch table by the window for ever-changing, panoramic views of the twinkling lights of the capital. Just don’t leave your handbag on the floor, or you might not see it until it comes around again. Make sure to try one of the tea-based cocktails (or mocktails), with inspired flavorings like tamarind, muddled blackberries, and fresh thyme.
Loca
Loca is one of the busiest bars in the city and a guaranteed good time. This Al Maryah Island spot—with its red-lit bar and distinctive industrial feel—has one of the capital’s busiest ladies’ nights. Unlike at some of Abu Dhabi’s other more laid-back locations, people here dress the part. There’s also a great pub quiz, a sprawling patio, and regular live music. There’s a great list of salty (and strong) margaritas and the fresh guac—prepared tableside—is a must-order snack to accompany your cocktails.
Hamilton’s Gastropub
Aside from being the only place in the capital that serves pints of the surprisingly delicious, raspberry-accented beer-wine crossover known as Hoegaarden Rosée, Hamilton’s Gastropub manages to deftly bridge the gap between gastropub and sports bar. This is a space with a focal point: the massive square bar, topped with steel beams and huge flat screens, offset by delicate suspended lighting. With wire-topped, exposed brickwork, the vibe manages to be industrial and upscale at the same time. Go here for games, hearty pub food, and a guaranteed good time.
Siddharta Lounge by Buddha Bar
The Pier at Yas Bay Waterfront has given Abu Dhabi an infusion of nightlife options, and the perfectly situated Siddharta Lounge has become a fast favorite. Kick back on a temperature-controlled rooftop, surrounded by water and twinkling lights. Buddha-Bar’s signature soft house soundtrack adds to the elevated vibe here, as does the rattan-focused decor and open marble bar, bookended by potted olive trees. Bartenders here are well-versed in their craft, shaking up Asian-inspired cocktails, as well as a menu offering non-alcoholic spirits—the Zen Zen with aloe vera juice, agave, mango shrub, mint leaves, and ginger beer is particularly refreshing.
