What to Do in Sydney, According to the Local Designers of Zimmerman: Ask a Local

If it’s got a few playful ruffles, a bold botanical print, and an easy-breezy vibe, there’s a good chance the garment you’re admiring is from Zimmermann. The Australian brand, founded in 1991 by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann, is still faithful to its original philosophy of feminine silhouettes, ingenious color combinations, and that laid-back Bondi Beach state of mind—something the duo know well. “There’s nothing better than being on a beautiful boat on Sydney Harbour in the sun,” says Nicky. Here she and Simone share their must-do recommendations in their hometown, including where to grab a meal with a view, go for a dip, and, of course, sip a classic flat white when you need to get your caffeine fix.

With a waterfront as beautiful as Sydney’s, Nicky says, “A perfect day starts with a walk along the Harbour.” Try the Hermitage Foreshore Track or make your way from Camp Cove Beach to Sydney Heads, where Australia’s first lighthouse stands. Then hang out at one of the city’s many sandy spots: “It’s hard to go wrong with Sydney beaches,” says Simone, “but some of my favorites are the small but scenic Tamarama Beach and Nielsen Park, with its picnic areas.” For pools with an ocean view, there’s the legendary Bondi Icebergs Pool at Bondi Beach, but Simone also recommends Wylie’s Baths along Coogee Bay and the Bronte Baths at Bronte Beach.

When it comes to dining, the Zimmermanns never stray far from the water. They love Bondi Beach icons like the Icebergs Dining Room and Bar on the south end and Sean’s, a market-driven restaurant, on the north, as well as Rose Bay’s Catalina for fine dining. “When we’re on the Northern Beaches, we go to Bert’s Bar & Brasserie in Newport,” says Nicky. It features an oyster bar and an extensive wine list. For dinner? “Margaret in Double Bay has incredible seafood and is always buzzy.” Top it all off with a visit to Shell House “for drinks and a late night.”
