Money Hack: A Simple Way to Save Money to Travel

This topic may be sensitive to some, because they simply don’t want to hear it.

But it needs to be said.

I hear it from my friends all the time that they want to travel, but they don’t have the money.

Yet they go out every weekend, spending money there like it’s no problem.

Sometimes you have to stay home in order to save money to travel!

I know, but going out is what you look forward to throughout the week, right?

Now I’m not saying you need to sit at home all sad and lonely. What I am saying is you need to be more conscious of the money you spend on the weekend.

Let’s do the math of a typical night out, shall we?

If you’re anything like me, you love having a beer or two on the weekend. (Or three or four…).

But, when you’re out on the town, you’re paying probably $8 PER DRINK or more, when you could buy a whole SIX PACK for $10!? (These are the legit prices in Denver, anyways)

So say you drink that whole six pack (eventually, hopefully not in a day but hey, I have no room to judge), you spent $10 by inviting your friends over and working on that project you’ve been putting off rather than spend a whopping $48 on the same number of drinks out (minimum) saving you at least $38!

Not to mention the Uber/Lyft, which is probably at least $20 for there and back. Total coming to $68 you’ve spent out (not including food or more expensive drinks or tipping, which is inevitable..)

If you spent just two nights at home watching Netflix or working on some project you have or inviting your friends over to YOUR place (hello byob! great way to try new drinks, you can even go ham and get them delivered by Drizly), you could get some more meaningful work/interactions in AND in just TWO WEEKENDS save at least $120. (This is a very conservative estimate, too!)

For me, that’s almost the price of a domestic airline ticket, or half the price of an international ticket. (Follow the link to see how I find international flight for CHEAP.)

Bottom line, if you don’t have money to travel, or haven’t mastered my almost free flight hack here, you need to cut back on unnecessary spending and SAVE money to travel.

So just let that sink in and hopefully you can plan a cheaper, more meaningful weekend that will get you to those exotic destinations sooner. ?
